Obituary of Daniel William Smith

Daniel William Smith (Danny), 57, passed away on June 4, 2024 of natural causes.

Danny was born April 3, 1967 in Duluth, MN and spent the first few years of his life there. At a young age, he moved into a group home for disabled individuals in Chisholm, MN. There he received wonderful care and enjoyed going to school, living with friends and working at the Range Center.

He could not speak but he communicated so much through his gestures, facial expressions and behavior. He was both sweet and mischievous, charming and happy. He loved being outdoors and around other people, especially when they gave him attention.

Danny is survived by his siblings David Smith, Christy Spokely (Shayne), and Julie Mitchell as well as many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father William Smith (Pat), Mother Dolores Mitchell (Zacher), stepfather Jerry Mitchell, sisters Terry Dubla (Smith) and Shelly Smith; brothers Scott Smith and Daniel Smith (died at birth), sister-in-law Debbie Smith, nephew Michael Hakes as well as several other relatives.

A Special THANK YOU to the Range Center and all the individual staff members who took such great care of Danny over the years. We are so very grateful you were in his life and sincerely thank you for providing such a wonderful environment for him to thrive in.
