Obituary of Barbara Adair Ingham

Barbara “Barb” Adair Ingham (nee Baebenroth) peacefully passed away on May 27, 2024, in her home in Edina, Minnesota. She was surrounded in the comfort of her loving family. She was 77 years old. Barbara was born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin on January 5, 1947, to her parents Robert and Alice Baebenroth. She was the oldest of three siblings, and adored her two younger brothers, Robert (Butch) and Ted. Her family moved to Independence, Iowa when she was a young girl. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing, cheerleading, and singing at church. She met her loving husband, David, in 1960. They dated for one year before he went off to serve in the Air Force for five years. They then reunited once David returned from serving, and they got married on June 22, 1968. She attended Mercy College of Health Sciences in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and graduated with a degree in Nursing in 1968. She was a nurse for a few years before she became a stay-at-home mom and ran an in-home daycare for local families. After many stops along the way (from living in Iowa, Washington D.C., Maryland, and Wisconsin), David and Barbara finally settled in their beloved brown house on Longfellow Avenue in Minneapolis, where they lived for 35 years and raised their four children, and where Barbara ran her daycare. Each of their four children were born in different states/cities. She gave birth to their first child, their daughter Tiffany, in 1969 (in Washington D.C.); followed by daughter Holly in 1971 (in Mason City, Iowa), son Shannon in 1974 (in Mankato, Minnesota), and son Justin in 1975 (in Minneapolis, Minnesota.) Barbara was a devoted Catholic, and she served as a dedicated member of the Basilica of St. Mary’s church in Minneapolis for over 20 years. She gently and graciously instilled the messages of the Bible and God’s eternal love into the lives of her children and grandchildren, and we know that she is in the hands of the Lord and comforted in the hands of her Savior for eternity. In 2013, she and David moved to Edina Morningside Condominiums, where she served as a member of the condo board until they moved to Aurora Senior Living Home in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2023. Barbara enjoyed reading interior design magazines and decorating her home, shopping at cute antique stores and boutiques (Patina was an absolute favorite), visiting the Lake Harriet Rose Garden and bird watching, visiting art museums; and she especially loved Caribou Coffee, Panera soup, Yum! Patticake, and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. She was an incredibly loving and supportive grandmother to her six beloved grandchildren: Faith, Reece, Alicia, Quinn, Sadie, and Ruby. From taking care of her grandchildren at her in-home daycare when they were toddlers, to attending their countless sporting events and musical performances, to hosting get-togethers for her grandchildren to spend time together, to consistently sending them letters in the mail and sweet texts, she was the most precious and loving grandmother they could have ever had. Barbara was an avid lover of anything to do with hearts, specifically yellow hearts. Her motto was “Daily dose of heart”, which she would caption her countless photos on Instagram that she took of different hearts that she would see. She would send her family photos of hearts on the regular, and each time her family saw a heart, they would send her a photo of it as well. Her family never recalls a time of her speaking bad of anyone. She had a true heart of gold, and her legacy will live on in her family as they strive to see the good in each and every person and to spread love to all those that are around, which she did effortlessly. She touched the lives of the countless people she met, and her beautiful smile and pure heart will always be remembered. Barbara is preceded in death by her father, Robert, and her mother, Alice. She is survived by her two siblings, brothers Robert (Leslie) and Ted (Marlys); her beloved and devoted husband of 56 years, David; her four children, Tiffany (Jason), Holly (David), Shannon, and Justin (Lisa); her six grandchildren, Faith, Reece, Alicia, Quinn, Sadie, and Ruby; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Family, friends, and others who loved Barbara are invited to join us for a funeral service honoring her life at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 10th at First Memorial Funeral Chapel (Cremation Society of Minnesota) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There will be a half hour visitation before the funeral service, and a reception with coffee and some of Barbara’s favorite treats after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s honor may be made to the Basilica of St. Mary’s church in Minneapolis, her beloved church.
