Obituary of Charles Marion Smock
Charles Marion Smock, 61, of Bloomington, MN passed away peacefully at his home with family at his side on May 9th, 2024. Charles was born Nov 2nd, 1962, to Ramond Smock and Roberta Strawther in Louisville, KY and baptized at Cable Baptist Church. He graduated from Atherton High School in Kentucky. Charles was soft-spoken, warm-hearted and a prankster who loved to joke. His faith was steadfast and part of his daily life. He took pride in his service in the Army and never wavered in his patriotism. He served proudly from 1984 to 1990. He did his basic training in Fort Knox, KY, and continued assignments in Colorado Springs, CO, Korea, and Germany. After his service, Charles moved to Minnesota to brave the northern winters with his beloved sister Marilyn. He enjoyed family get-togethers and holidays and mastered the art of grilling. Daily Westerns were a must with his trusty Koda Bear by his side. He was the Louisville Cardinals biggest fan -except when they lost- and cheered them on louder than you’d ever think possible. Fishing wasn’t just a sport to him, but his rest and relaxation as well. From Hawaii to Florida and many places in-between, Charles became quite the traveler. The annual Wisconsin cabin trips were without fail, because we all know he loved his fireworks! Charles is survived by his spouse, Paula Olson of Bloomington, MN, and his canine son Koda Bear, Sister Latonia Daniels of Minneapolis, MN, Charlotte Herbert of Atlanta, GA, brother-in-law Festus Otubushin of Ramsey, MN, sister-in-law Patty (Steve) Gooch of Amery, WI, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Charles is proceeded in death by his loving parents Ramond Smock and Roberta Strawther, stepfather Harding “Pop” Strawther, in-laws Marlys and Arvid Olson, brother Ramond “UNK” Smock, sister Marilyn Otubushin, sister Pamela Walton, and sister-in-law Pam Olson. Celebration of life will be at Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel on Thurs. May 23rd, 2024. Visitation at 10 am with service to follow at 11, also at Fort Snelling Chapel, 1 Tower Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55111.
