Obituary of Takako Daley

Takako Shichiri Daley of Minneapolis, MN passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 8th, 2024, at the tender age of 92.

Takako was born on April 8th, 1932, and was raised by her loving, doting father, Torajiro Shichiri in Hikone, Japan. Her fondness of numbers led her to a profession in accounting in early adulthood before she met her soon to be husband, Terry. Takako and Terry were wed in Tokyo, Japan on February 2nd, 1955. Takako made the brave decision to start a family in the United States shortly thereafter. Takako and Terry started their many life adventures by traveling across the world together. After their cross the world and cross-country adventures, Takako and Terry settled in the small town of Pine City, MN and started a beautiful family consisting of 4 children – George, Patricia, Sean, and Theresa. A few years later, their family relocated to Minneapolis, MN and added a 7th member to their family, Elizabeth. This addition made the Daley family complete and the family of 7 spent many adventure-filled years in Minneapolis.

Upon her arrival in the Twin Cities, Takako was eager to socialize and meet new friends to which she had no problem doing. Anyone that had the privilege to meet Takako was instantly drawn to her kind and sweet nature. Takako was an extremely compassionate person that would give anything to anyone even if it meant that she would go without. Takako was also an extremely strong, resilient, and independent woman overcoming life obstacles with ease and she conquered everything that she set out to do.

Her love for helping others and strong work ethic led Takako into a long career in the service industry. She proudly served as Head Waitress and mentor to many. She took pride in her work and enjoyed it thoroughly. Her work soon became her passion, and she was able to build a strong network of friends that were so pivotal throughout her life.

Takako’s other passion was her family with which she took great pride. Her love of family spread across the world to also reach her family members that still reside in Japan. Although she was not able to spend time with them often, her love for them remained steadfast. She loved everyone unconditionally and loved to spoil which led to her beloved pastime, shopping.

Takako was a master bargain hunter and could find the best deals around town. She would never turn down a trip to Kohl’s or the grocery store! Takako loved food, especially Japanese cuisine, and any kind of dessert. She was also an incredible cook and blessed her family with many, many delicious meals over her lifetime.

In addition to cooking, Takako also loved to knit. She made many, many projects for her family and friends and was always eager to share and learn tips and tricks. She loved to teach newcomers and would even buy knitting needles and yarn for anyone that wanted to learn the craft.

Takako’s love for music brought her a lot of peace throughout her lifetime and especially the last few years. Japanese Enka music was her favorite, but she also loved classic artists such as Rosemary Clooney, Patsy Cline, Andy Williams, Doris Day, and more! She was also light on her feet and if you kept an eye on her long enough, you could catch some of her smooth dance moves.

Takako’s magnetism will never be forgotten, and she will live in our hearts forever. Although we may be sad now, rest assured that she is flying free no longer bound to the limits of this earth.

Takako is survived by her children, George Daley, Sean Daley, Theresa Mann, and Elizabeth Daley; grandchildren, James (Mikelene) White, Jessica Fuller, and Matthew Gacek; great-grandchildren, Emery and Luke White; brother, Mitsuyoshi Shichiri; sister,  Masako Omoto; sister-in-law, Sadako Nagami; many beloved nieces and nephews; and last, but certainly not least, the HUGE network of friends that she absolutely adored.

Takako was preceded in death by her father, Torajiro Shichiri; husband, Terrance Daley; daughter, Patricia Daley; and brother, Yoshikazu Nagami; and sister, Matsuko Ooki.

Takako’s service will coincide with her 49th Day of Passing/Shijuukunichi (四十九日法要).

Celebration of life will immediately follow - please join us for a festive celebration of all things Takako-san! Great memories, fun photos, delicious Japanese food, music, and fellowship.
