Obituary of Wesley George Mickelson

Wesley George Mickelson, of Duluth, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016, in St. Eligius Health Care, surrounded by his loving family. Wes was born July 19, 1926, in Duluth, to Henry and Eunice (Ayotte) Mickelson. He graduated from Denfeld High School and served in the Navy during World War II. He worked for the Duluth Public School system and retired after 34 years, as chief engineer of Morgan Park High School. He was a past Commander of the American Legion Post 71, West Duluth (1961-62). After retirement he moved to Lake Nebagamon, and became their constable. After several years, he moved back to Duluth to be closer to family. Wes loved music and woodworking but most of all his family and four Golden Retrievers. He leaves behind his wife, Darlene; sons, John, Jeff (Faye), Steve (Ann) and Henry (Pam); two daughters, Wendy Kraus and Lori Myers; Darlene's children, Elizabeth, Robert and Brian; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A sincere thanks to St. Eligius Health Center staff and Essentia Hospital and Hospice staff for their kind caring over the past weeks. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 3 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016, in Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth, with a visitation one hour prior.
