Obituary of Carol Linnea DeVries

Carol Linnea DeVries, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at The Orchards of Minnetonka.

Born September 26, 1929 in Thief River Falls, MN, to Louis and Annie Anderson.

Visitation (11am) and Memorial Service (Noon) will be held on April 30, 2024 at Grace Church in Eden Prairie, MN. 

Carol went to high school at the U of M Farm school, along with her sisters.  Upon graduation, she stayed in the Twin Cities, as she preferred city life over the farm.  She declared not to marry until she was at least 30, and she and Chuck married exactly 2 weeks after her 30th birthday.  They lived in Ohio, Wisconsin and Iowa.  They migrated back to the Twin Cities to be near their kids and grandkids, and all of her siblings.   She was very close with her 6 sisters.  

Carol was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She was dedicated to her Lord Jesus Christ.  

Carol was known for her contagious smile.  Even in her last days, everyone commented on how wonderful her smile was.  She loved to have family around, and often hosted big family dinners.  Her cinnamon rolls and baked beans will fondly be remembered!  Carol loved being around people, and loved a party.  She was an avid shopper, always feeling more energized in a shopping mall.  On one of her last days, she declared she was still a good shopper.   Carol was a little spicy, and not afraid to share her opinions.  She had style, and class.  But mostly Carol loved to be with Chuck, as he was always at her side.  She loved to spend time with her kids and grandchildren.   

Preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Annie Anderson, siblings, Alice (Paul) Blomquist, Rachel (Sid) Johnson, Gladys (Alfred) Hoglund, Howard (Grace) Anderson, Norman (Irene) Anderson, Eva (Bob) Carrier, Judy (Brian) Bradley, and brother-in- law Duane Munson. 

Survived by:   Her husband, Charles DeVries, children Kris (Bob) Sullivan, Jim (Deb) DeVries, Beth (Steen) Erickson, sister Lois (Duane) Munson, Grandchildren: Luke (Katie) Sullivan, Austin (Katelyn) Sullivan, Jackson (Becca) Sullivan, Bailey Sullivan, Sam (Taylor) DeVries, Julia DeVries, Klara DeVries, Anna (Trent) Erickson, Jake Erickson, and many great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend gratitude to the staff at The Orchards of Minnetonka for their loving care of Carol during her last years. 

Memorials in lieu of flowers can be given to Grace Church Missions.
