Michael Cusick

Obituary of Michael Arthur Cusick

Mike Cusick, age 67, passed away peacefully at home on Easter morning, March 31, 2024, following a lengthy and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Mike was born on July 4, 1956, in Duluth, MN. He graduated from Central High School, Duluth, in 1974 where he excelled in both academics and sports. He was a talented bowler, baseball and basketball player who pitched against Paul Molitor and guarded Kevin McHale, both now Hall of Famers in their sport.

Mike attended the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, where he graduated in 1980 with a degree from the School of Pharmacy. Years later he pursued a second degree in Computer Science/ Informatics at the University of Wisconsin, Superior. Programming was one of Mike’s hobbies so incorporating his computer and pharmacy worlds for work was right up his alley.

Mike was employed as a hospital pharmacist in Duluth at St. Luke’s Hospital for a brief time and then at St Mary’s Hospital and remained employed there for 26 years. It is there that he met his wife, Kim, and their love story began.

Mike went from the bachelor life to that of being a devoted family man. He instantly became the most loving husband to Kim and wonderful stepfather of two, Shanna and Daniel. Together they took on many home building projects, enjoyed music and traveling. Always the athlete, Mike continued his interest in sports including tennis and golf. He cherished his quality time with family and friends whether vacationing or relaxing at Sleepy Eye Lake.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents; Arthur (Art) and Joyce Cusick and sister Sandra Hill.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Kimberly; stepchildren Shanna (Andy) Taylor of Minneapolis, MN and Daniel Lind of Hellertown, Pennsylvania; five cherished grandchildren Sylvie, Sadie, Mac, Colbi and Carter; two brothers Casey (Mary) Cusick, and Kevin (Angela) Cusick all of Duluth, MN; mother and father-in-law Lola and George Brown, Superior, WI; brother and sister- in-law Jim and Julie Brown, Superior, WI ; nieces and nephews Cullen, Corey, Emily, Kelly, Jacob, Kamryn; and his loyal service dog Jazzy.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 4:00-6:00pm with a prayer service to follow at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth, MN.
