Obituary of Connie Louise Barnes Davis
Davis, Connie L. (Barnes)
Connie Louise Barnes Davis passed away April 1, 2024 at her home in Bloomington, MN one day after a very nice Easter visit with her family. She was born June 5, 1934 in Pipestone, MN, spent her early life in South Minneapolis and raised her family in Bloomington.
She is survived by her daughter Peggy, her sons Ted (Andrea Casselton) and Loren (Cheryl Davis), beloved grandchildren August and Alexandra and her persnickety roommate Ms. Kitty.
Connie was smart, funny, and kind. She was an avid and voracious reader which made her a great conversationalist and a maddingly strong trivia player. An anglophile and historian, her apartment featured shelves full of books about Great Britain and its Royal Family. And horses- an amazing number of books about horses.
Long before there was an Internet, Connie researched the pedigrees of both family and horses, going farther back with her Thoroughbred and Morgan horse pedigrees than she did with her family. Through both lines of research, she gathered a big team of pen pals across the country.
She enjoyed container gardening, the Minnesota Vikings and Broadway musicals. She collected coins, stamps, and Blair catalog iconic fleece jackets – a color for every occasion. Connie enjoyed theater a lot. She never missed one of her childrens’ school plays. She was a founder of the Bloomington Experimental Theater in the mid 1980s. In her retirement, Connie was an enthusiastic volunteer set builder, prop scrounger and usher for the Bloomington Civic Theater and the Gallery Players.
Connie did not like to fly but she LOVED to travel. She enjoyed many long road trips with family, friends, a high school choir, theater-goers and the Packard car club. And she did occasionally conquer her fears and get on an airplane when the destination demanded.
She had a long career as an administrative assistant working with St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, the Synod of Lakes and Prairies, the very entertaining Rev. Ken Stokes and, finally, the Westin and Davis accounting firm.
Connie owned author or editor credits for a number of books and articles. Among them, a history book; Bloomington on the Minnesota (1976), and an academic book; Faith Development in the Adult Life Cycle (1982). Surprisingly, both are available on Amazon.
We are planning a celebration of Connie’s interesting life in the coming weeks. If you would like to join us, please send us a note at teddavis65@gmail.com and we’ll give you the secret password. In accordance with her wishes- and the plan she funded in 1998 – Connie has chosen cremation and her ashes will go to places that she held dear.
Connie’s family is very grateful to the caring staff of Ebeneezer Nine Mile Creek Memory Care and the good people of Grace Hospice. If you are so moved, please join us in making a memorial contribution to Grace Hospice https://www.gracecaring.org/support-us/
