Obituary of Carol Ann Whalen

Carol Ann (Asp) Whalen, age 81 of St. Paul, MN passed away on April 15, 2023, at New Perspectives Assisted Living, Highland Park, St Paul, MN.

Carol was born on December 4, 1941, in Hutchinson, MN to George and Blanche (Mattson) Asp.  She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1959.  She married Tom Whalen in 1962 and they had three daughters Colleen, Keri, and Ann.  They later divorced. Carol went on to work in secretarial positions throughout her career including AC Carlson, Stockholm Lutheran Church, Schwartz Manufacturing, Minnegasco, and Hamline University before retiring from Hennepin County.

Carol had been active in the Cokato Historical Society and was on the Great River Library Board.  She enjoyed needlework, travel, gardening, history, and her little bungalow home in Minneapolis.

Carol was proceeded in death by her parents George and Blanche, her sister Marlyce Lee and brother William Asp.

Carol is survived by daughters Colleen Whalen, Keri (Greg) Hasse and children Erik, Christopher, Patrick and Leah, and Ann (Chris) Anderson and children Ashley (Nate Gerlach), Adam, Arica, and Austin, great grandchildren Emmett and Rosie, sister Marcia (Lew) Johnson, nieces, and nephews.

A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Centennial Room in the Cokato Library, 175 4th St. SW, Cokato, MN.
