Roger Collins

Obituary of Roger Allen Collins

Roger Allen Collins, 75, of Northern Pines Retirement Home, passed away peacefully on 14 January 2024, surrounded by his close family and loved ones. Roger grew up in Lexington, a northern suburb of Minneapolis, and started his adult working career fixing old vacuum tube television sets. He joined the Air Force for three years and worked as a radio operator in Korea and Wyoming. After serving in the military, he went to work for Control Data, in Minnesota, and rose quickly to earn a spot on the development team that created the first super computer.

After his first wife, of 27 years, Patricia passed away, he moved to Arizona; and there he found his second wife, of 20 years, Carol. Roger joined the All-Saints Lutheran church in phoenix and became very involved with the children’s group, supporting Special Olympics, and the Disabled American Veterans. Roger’s final career was as a technical writer for Hypercom, where he reluctantly retired.

Roger also enjoyed coaching his children’s soccer teams, hiking through the mountains, and starting new home renovations… frequently. Roger will be dearly, deeply missed and always remembered.

Roger was predeceased by his father, William Collins; mother, Marcella Collins (Carter); first wife, Patricia Collins (Bonnell); and second wife Carol Collins (Moeller).

Roger is survived by his Mother-in-Law, Carol Moeller; brothers: Denny (Brenda); and Jim Collins. Children: Jeff (Kelly); Mike (Beth); Matt (Ashley), and 10 grandchildren. Roger requested a celebration of life be held as opposed to traditional funeral services.
