Obituary of Nancy Corbin Gethin
Nancy Corbin Gethin, aged 90, died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, March 19, 2024. Nancy grew up in Ohio, and attended Bowling Green State University where she met Bruce Gethin on a blind date. They wed upon graduation, and moved to Texas where Bruce was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and Nancy taught English to elementary students. They lived in several locations after Bruce joined Kroger, a grocery company based in Ohio, and ultimately relocated to Edina, MN when Bruce took a leadership position at Red Owl.
Nancy was accepted into the docent program at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, which led to an exceptional ongoing education in the visual arts and the opportunity for her to share that knowledge with thousands of visitors to the museum. She was a gifted guide for more than thirty years, and especially enjoyed leading tours for young people and sharing her love for the arts. Bruce and Nancy raised three children, Steven, Laurie and Susan, as well as seven beloved cocker spaniels. Upon retirement, Bruce and Nancy split their time between Edina and their condo in Stuart, Florida. Their homes were filled with love, humor, classical music, beautiful decor and fabulous cooking.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce, and their son Steven. She is survived by her devoted daughters Laurie (Arlington, Virginia) and Susan (Minneapolis).
A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Grace Hospice and the Minnesota Masonic Home in Bloomington, who cared for Nancy on and off over the past year. They all treated her with genuine dignity and respect, and she felt safe and cared for by them.
A private burial will be held later this spring. Memorials can be made in Nancy's honor to The Minneapolis Institute of Art.
