Obituary of Tom Hanson III

A. T. Hanson III (Tom) left us on February 19, 2024, of a catastrophic heart attack, doing what he loved most: shopping for wood to build another beautiful creation.  

Woodworking was one of the many talents he discovered in retirement along with gourmet cooking, fly fishing, North Shore camping, taking care of and feeding his furry creatures, and all around “rebel rousing.” 

Tom was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on April 10, 1944, to Alvin Talman Hanson II and Bette Ann (nee Kibler). He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in landscape architecture. He enjoyed a career in that exact field in Texas, California and Minnesota, retiring from the Target Corporation. 

He will be truly missed by his beloved, Kathleen (Kitty) Hough, of 35 years; son, Mark (Virginia a.k.a. Ginna); grandchildren, Bryce and Robyn (Dellanta); great-grandson, LaKaii; sister, Kris (Bill) Wessale and their children; as well as many friends dating back to high school and college days.
