Obituary of Maynard Milton Schroeder
Maynard Schroeder was born on July 22, 1928 to his loving parents Lena and Alfred Schroeder in Minnesota Lake Township, Minnesota. He graduated from Minnesota Lake High School in 1946, the year his father Alfred passed away. He helped his brother Burton take over the farm responsibilities in Minnesota Lake with their Mother Lena.
Maynard met Delores Rose Grunzke in 1952. When Delores was in her senior year, she asked Maynard to her Senior Prom. They were married the following year on July 29, 1953. Settling in Mankato, Maynard entered the grocery industry, starting his career with Red Owl. He then moved to St. Peter, Minnesota to manage the Red Owl store. In addition to his work, Maynard served his community by volunteering on the St. Peter Police Reserves
On August 7, 1957 Maynard and Delores had their first child, a daughter named Rochelle Ann. Five years later, on June 6, 1962 they had their son John Frederick. Maynard built his first house in 1966 up on the hill on Traverse Road in St. Peter, MN. Following, he accepted a teaching position at Pipestone Vocational School as Instructor in Supermarket Management. He packed up the family and moved to Pipestone Minnesota in 1971. There they raised their family and both Rochelle (1975) and John (1980) graduated from Pipestone High School. In 1976, Maynard received his CPR certification and served as an emergency driver for the city of Pipestone.
He retired from Pipestone Vocational School in 1987, and relocated to the Twin Cities in 1988. There he finished his working career as the Concessions Manager at Canterbury Downs Horse Track running the food operations.Residing in both Burnsville and Lakeville, Maynard made his home in the south metro for the latter part of his life. Even in his later years he remained independent, living in his home and driving until he was 93 years of age! In September 2022, Maynard transitioned to Arbors Ridges in Burnsville. It was there surrounded by his loved ones, that he peacefully passed and went to the Lord on March 7, 2024.
Maynard was a devoted Christian, loving husband to Delores (57 years), and wonderful father and grandfather to his two children and five grandchildren. He was known for his quiet love, patience, and kindness. Maynard was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him and he loved to socialize with friends and family. In his free time, Maynard enjoyed life’s simple pleasures including fishing, deer hunting, going to sporting events, spending time with his grandchildren, working outdoors, and lake living up on Horseshoe Lake in Cross Lake, Minnesota. Above all, Maynard was a beacon of integrity, instilling in his family the values of family, honor, respect, integrity, and character. He lived a life of selflessness, always prioritizing others before himself. He was rich in traditions and values, and he never complained, not even at the end.
He was 95 years 7 months and 14 days when he passed. He will be forever remembered.
Maynard is survived by, his daughter Rochelle Koznick, his son John Schroeder (Deb), brother, William Schroeder (Shirley), grandchildren, Celeste Lehman (Luke), Jordan Schroeder (Gaby), Quinn Koznick , Zachary Schroeder, (Emily), Elly Schroeder, sister in law, Donna Grunzke, sister in law, Ardis Grunzke, and many nieces and nephews.
Maynard is preceded in death by his beloved father and mother, Alfred and Lena Schroeder, wife, Delores Schroeder, brother, Burton Schroeder ( Donna), sisters, Betty Supalla (Bob), Helen Supalla (John), brother in Law Harold Grunzke, brother in Law Owen Grunzke.
Maynard’s family would like to thank everyone for their love, care and support.
The family will be holding a memorial service on March 20th at 11:00 am at:
