Obituary of Michael P. Morgan

Michael “Scoop” Morgan passed away at University of Minnesota Fairview hospital on March 3, 2024 at the age of 63. Michael was the youngest of three sons of Kenneth and Dorothy Morgan, born in Marshall Minnesota. He spent the majority of his life living in south Minneapolis, and working for more than 40 years in the food and hospitality industry, which is where his nickname of “Scoop” became part of his identity. His most recent position was at Loew’s Hotel in downtown Minneapolis where he was selected as the “Employee of the Month” multiple times, as well as “Employee of the Year”. Michael was always in motion, doing his own work as well as seeking out others who needed help in the kitchen, or in other food service areas in the hotel. His job allowed him to interact with various celebrities, and have access to unique opportunities, such as getting a free ticket to Super Bowl LII, and getting compliments on his cooking from Sir Paul McCartney. Mike was also an avid baseball fan, and would go with friends or family to Target field at least once a year. He also had an encyclopedic memory of baseball statistics, and trivia, and enjoyed finding “treasures” of Minnesota Twins or Vikings memorabilia at second-hand stores. Every birthday or Christmas card, or letter he sent ended with a sign-off of either “Go Vikes” or “Go Twins”.

Mike was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Morgan, his ex-wife Geri Mceachran, and step-father, Darewood Kachinsky. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Kachinsky, his brothers Patrick Morgan and Thomas Morgan, sister Siobahn Morgan, step-son Jestin Mceachran, step-brothers Barry Kachinsky, Leonard Kachinsky, step-sister Maggie Quiesser, niece Rachel Besonan, nephew Cory Besonan, and grand-nephews and a grand-niece. He also leaves behind his large family of friends and colleagues who he worked with over the years, who will certainly miss him.

There will be a reception in memory of Michael at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4343 Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN on Sunday March 24, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM.
