Obituary of Shirley Mae Hahn
Shirley Mae Hahn (Moe)
age 87, of Crystal, MN
Passed away peacefully February 23, 2024. Preceded in death by husband Thomas, son Michael, parents and brothers, Melford, Harvey, Wally & Denny. Survived by children Tammy (Bob) Altavilla, Jeff (Angie) Hahn, Jane Marostica (Dan), Heidi (Joe) Bougie; grandchildren Tony (Melody), Nick (Abbie), Angelo, Katie (Joe), Amy (Rory), Meghan, Ross (Monica), Ally (Ryan), Vinny, Kate (Jason), Sam, Shea, and 9 great-grandchildren. Shirley had an immense love of her family, friends and the great times shared. We all enjoyed and will never forget her infectious giggle and wit; times just ‘kibitzing’, playing cards and enjoying a little cocktail. For her kids and grandchildren, we are forever grateful in her willingness to drop everything at a moment’s notice to help. Always put together, a beautiful sense of style, her home immaculate, smells from the oven insisting we eat, her presence was a delight. In Shirley’s 35-year career as a Nutrition Services Supervisor for North Memorial Health Robbinsdale, she was tireless in her efforts to ensure the hospital patients were well fed. She was a friend to so many at North. She managed her team in her confident Norwegian style…meaning there was no messin’ around in Shirley’s kitchen! Following her retirement, much of her time was spent with family and friends around the house or at the lake, always looking forward to the next gathering where she would cook, bake, whip up everyone’s favorite potato salad…whatever was asked, Shirl would deliver with a smile. Shirley was diagnosed with dementia 8 years ago…living the last 2 years in her cozy apartment in Memory Care at Urbana Senior Living. In her peace filled moments, Shirley was a true ray of sunshine…her wit, snarky comments, giggle and smile were her gifts to others…loved by the staff and fellow residents, and we are forever grateful of the 24/7 spiritual, mental, and physical health needs. In her final days, Mom asked to go home to see her Mom. We believe that the louder growl for Mom to come home was from her late husband Tom, who hated her disease and what it did to her. With her passing, we are comforted in knowing at the gates of Heaven, her Mom, Petra was there to give her a big hug, next in line, Tom. Her mind is finally free, her smile back in full swing and the snarky comments, comforting yet stern voice…a ‘WOO-HOO’ and shouting ‘I love YOU more’ are felt from above. She will be missed but look forward to the day we too are welcomed home, with a big hug back in her loving arms. A celebration of life is planned for May Day, what would have been her 88th birthday, Wednesday, May 1st at House of Hope Lutheran Church 4800 Boone Ave N, Mpls 10:30 Visitation, 11:00 am Service with fellowship to follow. Memorials preferred to Alzheimer's Association for research. Private interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
