Obituary of Alyce Joanne Cooper
Alyce was born August 22, 1938 to Dewey and Dovey Wilson. She had been the last surviving member of five kids, her older siblings: Dewey Jr., Freida, and Elenor. Her younger sister Caroline, had lost her life to illness at a very tender age. She grew up in the Ozark Hills West of Omaha, Arkansas near Cricket Creek. She attended grade school in Omaha followed by High School at School of the Ozarks. After graduating at the age of 16, she enrolled at the University of Missouri in Columbia where she began studying Interior Design. Not long after getting there, she met her husband to be (Lavon Cooper). They were married about a year later on August 19, 1956 – Three days shy of her 18th Birthday.
After Lavon graduated, they went off to start a family. Somewhere between their moves to Oklahoma City to Columbus Ohio to Freeport Illinois to Hopkins and then Mound Minnesota, they created three Children: David Cooper (Connie Mae), Jennifer Hanson (Ordell), and Barney Cooper (Christina) who love and miss her dearly.
When her children reached school age, Alyce went back to school attending the University of Minnesota where she earned a degree in Social Science. Shortly after graduating, she took a job with Wright County Human Services where she served as a Social Worker and later a supervisor of that same team. After retiring 20 years later, Alyce and Lavon moved to Bucyrus, Missouri. They built a home on a beautiful property way out in the sticks; but, close enough to Springfield and Alyce’s sisters for her to reconnect with them. They eventually returned to Minnesota in 2009 to be near their growing family. By that time, there were seven grand-children and would soon be five great-grandchildren that were all so blessed to have Alyce in their lives.
Alyce passed away on February 19, 2024 with loved ones near – After exactly 671/2 years of marriage and a lifetime of adventure. The love she shared with those around her that was remarkable. She always kept track of what and how all were doing – always remembering birthdays, anniversaries, and other stuff you wouldn’t expect. Her love will live on through all who knew her.
