Obituary of Donald August Anderson

Donald August Anderson passed away on February 4, 2024, with his family by his side, in Augustana Care, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories. He was born on October 27, 1931, to Delmer and Clara (Erickson) Anderson, in a small town that would shape his character and values.

Donald and Joyce were united in marriage on March 28, 1953, embarking on a journey filled with shared dreams and unwavering commitment. Their love was an inspiration to all who knew them, serving as a constant reminder of the beauty of lifelong companionship.

Donald took over the family farm from his Dad, becoming the custodian of a legacy built on hard work and resilience. His dedication to the land was unparalleled, as he poured his heart and soul into preserving the family's heritage by also running Anderson Dairy delivering dairy products.

Outside of his work, Donald had many hobbies and interests that brought him great joy. He coached the Carlton County Judging team, leading them to State and Nationals, instilling in his students a love for competition and excellence. He also had a passion for showing cattle, a passion he passed down to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, ensuring that this love for livestock would continue for generations to come.

Donald's involvement in various organizations and his commitment to his community spoke volumes about his character. He was an active member of 4-H, where he found fulfillment in mentoring young minds and fostering personal growth. Additionally, he was a member of the Holstein Association, Land O Lakes, and AMPI, always seeking to contribute to the betterment of his community.

Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Joyce Anderson, who was his partner in life and love. He was also preceded by his parents, as well as his sisters, Doris, Lucille, and Sally, and his brother Edward. The loss of his granddaughter, Brianne, added an immeasurable weight to his heart.

However, in the midst of sorrow, Donald's spirit lives on through his survivors. He is survived by his brother, Rodney Anderson of Colorado, his children, Donald (Donny) Jr, John and Keith Anderson, and daughter Nancy (Rodney) Grimm. His grandchildren, Robert Grimm, Jeremy (Jess) Grimm, Tricia (Dan) Rodenborg, and Melissa (John) Stevens, were the source of endless joy and pride. His great-grandchildren, Jessica, JJ, Hunter, and Nick Stevens, Annie, Karleigh, Kynleigh, and Aubreigh Rodenborg, Kenzie, Alayna, and Kaylee Grimm, as well as Aaron and Raelynn Grimm, carried on his legacy with love and admiration.

In this time of profound loss, the family would like to extend a special message of gratitude to Augustana Care and St. Croix Hospice for their exceptional care and support. Their compassion provided solace during the most challenging moments, and they will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Donald's loved ones.

Donald August Anderson will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, and a kind-hearted grandfather and great-grandfather. His legacy of love, hard work, and community involvement will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, may we find solace in the memories we shared and the values he instilled in us.
