Obituary of Alan Simpson
Alan "Duane" Simpson, 81, of Iron River passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Solvay Hospice Center, Duluth. He was born on July 22, 1934, in Iron River, the son of Walter Simpson and Judith (Hedquist) Simpson. Duane attended South Shore High School, graduating in 1952.
Duane remained on the family dairy farm until 1979 when the farm was converted to the Iron River National Fish Hatchery. Next, he drove a milk truck for the Iron River Cheese Factory and the Cloverland Transfer company, and later worked for the USDA Forest Service in Washburn and the Iron River National Fish Hatchery until 2012.
Duane is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Judith Simpson, brother James, half-brothers Edward, and Walter Jr, half-sister Viola Talso, nephews Gary and Dennis.
Graveside service: 3 p.m. Sunday, June 5 at the Town of Tripp Cemetery, Tripp Cemetery Road, Iron River.
