Jacquette McCabe

Obituary of Jacquette McCabe

Jay was born October 1,1952, to her late parents, Shelby and Donzel Johnson. She was a kind, caring, and fun-loving woman who gave the best hugs. Her smile and big brown eyes lit up any space she occupied, and she loved to laugh. Jay’s Christian service career spanned 30+ years.  She served in various congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses throughout the twin cities.  Service to Jehovah was the LOVE of her life, and she cherished her Christian brothers and sisters.  She never missed an opportunity to tell someone about Jehovah, even if it meant sacrificing her reputation; she suffered many challenges at work for trying to “preach” the good news of the Kingdom.  And even though her illness had robbed her of her eyesight, she asked for tracks to place on her table at the care facility and the hospital so she could encourage anyone who would listen to seek Jehovah. She proudly shared, “I encouraged five people to study and get baptized; two were my parents.” Jay’s secular career spanned 30+ years with the City of Minneapolis, where she served in various roles – assistant to the former Mayor, Sharon Sales Belton, the City Attorney’s office (civil and criminal division), the Police Department, and the Minneapolis Fire Department – to name a few.  She retired in 2005. After a lengthy battle with poor health, Jay passed away peacefully on February 11, 2024, surrounded by her family and friends who she loved, dearly. Jay is survived by her two children, Zermaine Kenneth McCabe, and Kalaya Shalane Mburu; a sister, Debra Johnson; three brothers Ricky, Ralph, and Darryl Johnson; and grandchildren, Zermaine McCabe-Davids II, Nordame Williams II, Nadia Mburu, Davonte Wilks; great grandchildren, Zermaine McCabe-Davis III, Ziriae McCabe-Davis III, and a host of nieces and nephews.
