Obituary of Doris Mae Stensvad
Doris passed away on February 9, 2024 (99-1/2—just six months shy of her 100th birthday). Doris Mae Brazil was born July 10, 1924 in Birch Cooley Township, MN, and raised on the family farm. After attending Morton high school, she worked office jobs in Redwood Falls, then Minneapolis. She married William Stensvad in 1947. Together they raised six children with an abundance of love, guidance and wit.
She enjoyed playing cards, doing ceramics, reading, collecting angel figurines and pitchers. But family was always at her forefront, and while living in Fargo, she extended that love and care to numerous youngsters she baby-sat for many years. Later, while living in Osseo, she worked as a teacher’s aid at Osseo Elementary, doing what she did best—caring for children. Doris and Bill enjoyed many retirement years on a lake in northern Minnesota, with a multitude of fun-filled visits from good friends and family.
She is survived by her children: Diane (Dave), Duane (Roxanne), Debby (Barb), Donna (Scott), Denae (Dave), Dan (Amy). 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and fur-granddog, Otis.
Preceded in death by: husband, Bill; parents, Joseph and Margaret; siblings, Lorraine (Dick), Mary (Bob), Joe (Dorothy), Dorothy (Glenn), Jim (Dorothy).
She always claimed she had six angels—but we six were the ones that were blessed with an angel for a mom.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00-4:00 on Saturday, March 16 at Cremation Society of Minnesota, Brooklyn Park. In lieu of flowers, please give to the charity of your choice in her honor.
There will be a private family burial at Fort Snelling.
