Obituary of Beatrice Levey
June 15, 1946 - February 9, 2024
Bea was born in St. Paul, MN daughter of Fred and Alice Thompson. She moved with her family to Duluth, graduating from Duluth East in 1964, and the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 1968. She went on to teach at Washington Junior High in Duluth. Bea is survived by her husband of 55 years and high school sweetheart, Richard, children Dave (Christie) Levey and Mara (Tony) Proell. Bea also was Grandma Bea to four grandchildren: Ali and Madison Levey, Freddy and Finley Proell. She was “Great Aunt Bea” to many nieces and nephews.
Bea was very active in the community serving as an officer with the Duluth Art Institute, Tweed Museum of Art, Duluth Friends of Tennis, Women’s Golf Association at North Country Club, and The Junior League of Duluth.
In 1992, Bea and Dick took over ownership of Walker Display, a company which develops and manufactures hanging systems for art. This allowed Bea to combine her love of art with travel throughout the United States and Europe, while growing the business.
Bea was a dedicated friend and was blessed with having friendships that lasted her entire life. She enjoyed her time spent with her friends: playing tennis, golfing, walking, and practicing Pilates. Bea loved children and young adults and made her home a welcoming place for all. She was known for filling the cupboards with food and hosting. She loved noise and laughter in the house, and made an impact on the lives of many that passed through the door. Always the teacher, she could be found playing on the floor with her grandchildren or helping teach a kid to become a golf caddie.
Bea spent the last 5 years of her life living in the loving community of the BeeHive Homes of Duluth. We would like to thank everyone at BeeHive for their loving care of our “Queen Bea”.
The family will have a private burial with the celebration of life at a later date.
