Age 75 of Little Canada, MN

Born on March 25, 1948, in Minneapolis, MN to Vernon and Ardes (Nelson) Morris, Bruce died on the morning of February 5, 2024

Visitation and Funeral service will be held at Lydia Zion United Methodist Church, 1026 E 205th Street, Jordan, MN 55352 on Saturday, February 24, 2024. Visitation begins at 9:30 am, service at 11:00 am. Lunch will be served following the service in the fellowship hall. Interment will be at Fort Snelling Cemetery in the Spring.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Ardes Morris, and brother Gordon. Survived by wife, Julie Meyer, nephews Jason and Jamie (Laura), grand-nephews and nieces Dakota, Shelby, Andrew, and Abby.

Bruce grew up in South Minneapolis near Lake Nokomis. He spent his days playing baseball and other sports with friends in the parks and on the streets of the area. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and went promptly to Air Force Basic Training in 1967. He served at Ellsworth AFB (South Dakota) and Eielson AFB (Alaska) ending at Kingsley Field (Oregon). His Air Force duty was one of his proudest accomplishments. In 1972, he began working at the USPS as a postal carrier in Saint Paul. He delivered letters and packages, walking house to house for the next 32 years, retiring in 2004.

During his life, he continued to play on many baseball teams with area organizations and churches. He loved the game, and reportedly was very good at it. His nephews fondly remember Bruce taking them to their first professional baseball, football, and hockey games. They also remember that he gave them the best Christmas gifts…always sport themed!

He also loved to travel, either alone or with others. He visited most of the country on 2 to 3 week driving trips, escaping delivering mail during the worst part of Winter. His only “overseas” travel was to Hawaii and on one Caribbean Cruise, where he saw Jamaica, the Grand Cayman Islands, and Cancun. With his partner, Julie, he went East once and saw Niagara Falls, Gettysburg battlefield, Hershey Pennsylvania, Dover AFB in Delaware, stayed at MacDill AFB in Florida and more. They toured many states together. His favorite trips were in the western United

States from the Dakotas to California and back through the Southwestern states. The Black Hills were his favorite and often began and/or ended driving trips west!

In 2012 Bruce was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma cancer. With treatment including a Bone Marrow transplant, Kemo, Radiation and more, all guided by Dr. Jahagirdar and other capable doctors at Regions Hospital and the University of Minnesota. His cancer was kept in check for most of 12 years. In 2022, the markers began to increase, and “Dr J” once again helped keep things in check, though Bruce had pain and weakness due to the disease, he was able to continue to live a full life with friends and family until shortly before he died. He always expressed thankfulness for the time he had and for all the people who shared that time with him. His friends said Bruce was honest and kind, a good man to know.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Animal Humane Society, the Air Force Aid Society, or another charity that benefits animals or Veterans.
