Obituary of George Harris
George Harris, age 73, of Minneapolis, MN passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 21st, 2024.
George was born on December 11, 1950 in Tunica, Mississippi to Lizzie Mary Harris(d) and George Jones (d), he was affectionately known as Bobbie to a lot of people. He was very wise, and had a “big” heart. George enjoyed life to the fullest and loved working, cooking, singing and being full of jokes and smiles all the time. As a true lover of God, life and people there wasn't a soul that met him and didn't love him.
George graduated from East St. Louis Sr. High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army 82nd airborne and earned 3 medals before he was released from active duty. He moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1980. He was very good with his hands and was well-known as a boy scout master, an electrician, a caretaker as well as being a federal employee for many years.
Preceded in death is one son George Harris Simpson, of St Louis, MO, and 2 brothers, Tim Harris of MN/Ill, and Bernard (Chevon) Poston of Madison, WI and Seven aunts/uncles.
Leaving behind to cherish his memory are his 8 children, Shunnay Brantley, George Harris Jr, both of St. Paul, MN, Jordain Pruitt, Minneapolis, Regina Harris, St. Paul, MN, Derrel Pruitt, Raneesha Pruitt, Brittany Pruitt, all of Minneapolis, MN, and Tijuana Pruitt of St. Cloud MN, 8 grandsons and 7 granddaughters along with 6 siblings, John (Carlotte) Harris of Denver, CO, Rosina (Todd) Bennett of Bloomington, MN, Gwendolyn (Archie) Clemons of Sauk Village, IL, Wanda Poston of Edina, MN , Sherman (Andrea) Poston of Shiloh, IL and Joseph (Alem) Poston of Shiloh , Il , and Three Uncles, James Harris , Sylvester Harris,(Both of E St Louis/St louis), and Elijah Harris of Nebraska, ThreeAunts/ Margaret (Dollie Jones) of Chicago, Ill, Fannie Scales and Marthia Chapman of Minnesota. Also nieces, nephews, and a host of over one hundred first cousins,, family and friends.
George used to say, “Don’t give in, Don’t give up, and Don’t give out, BUT HOLD ON!!!” So, we invite those who loved him and were inspired by him, as well as those who admired his success to share in his celebration of life together.
The service will be held Friday, February 9th, at Mill City Church. 685 13th Ave NE Mpls, MN
