Dear Lem Family,
Please know what an incredible mark Alan made on Fairview! I appreciated Alan’s approachability and dry humor. More than one time, I approached him with pride after a considerably difficult department decision. The results were impressive-I couldn’t tell, of course, if they were to his standards, but it took immense leadership, planning, and execution. I would stop by and say, “did you see what we accomplished?” And with Alan’s dry humor, he would say, yes, Marnie, I see.
I learned a lot from Alan and I want you to know that. He was a man of integrity despite the challenges we faced. He always sought to learn about the departments he represented financially.
When I learned of his illness, I was devastated—for many reasons. I managed a Neurosurgery clinic, so I was familiar with this insidious disease. I also lost a dear friend at 41 in 8 months to the exact disease and so I know what you went through. I am so sorry.
