Roy Simengaard
Roy was born July 12, 1940 in Bottineau, North Dakota.
And passed away December 29, 2023 in Minneapolis, Minnesota at 83.
His father Erling Simengaard was a farmer who emigrated from Norway. His mother Anna (Moen) was the descendant of Norwegian immigrants.
Roy is preceded in death by parents, Erling and Anna (Moen); brothers Arne, Kaare, and Thor; sister-in-law Marlys (Arne); nephew Robin (Thor); and niece Teri Mungary (Thor).
Roy is survived by Sister-in-law Wanda (Arne’s wife);
Seven nieces:
Children of Arne: Virginia Lynn (Kent Kane), Rebecca (Les) Johnson, Dawn (Mark) Jaworski, Ann (Gary) Keeler, Julie (Ken) Trecartin
Children of Thor: Sonia Cacucciolo and Rhonda Simengaard;
15 grandnieces and nephews;
18 great grandnieces and nephews;
2 great, great grandnephews.
Roy lived in Portland, Oregon for many years, a city he loved, and had visits with family members there. He also visited family in Minnesota and California. His nieces moved him from Portland to Minnesota a year before his passing so he would be close to his family there.
Roy served in the Air Force for four years. As a part of his training he studied Russian. During this time he enjoyed living in New York City, and attending plays. He was also stationed in Japan. He appreciated this opportunity to experience the life and culture of Japan.
He worked as a bookkeeper/accountant throughout his career.
He enjoyed reading, listening to music and watching movies. He read books to his nieces, instilling in them a love of reading.
He was an avid supporter of the arts and organizations which protect animals and nature.
He was a lifelong walker and reminded others to walk in the shade.
He will be greatly missed for his humor, sharp wit, generosity, and kindness.
Roy will be buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
