Obituary of Dorothy Anne Berhow
Dorothy Anne (Sesker) Berhow, 87, passed away peacefully December 31, 2023 surrounded by family.
Dorothy was born December 19, 1936 in DesMoines, Iowa to Georgia (Sutton) Sesker and Kahl John Sesker. She attended school in Cambridge Iowa, graduating in 1954. Following graduation, she was employed by the Story County ASCS office. On August 13, 1955 she was united in marriage to Thomas Berhow. They lived in Cambridge, Iowa and moved to Ames, Iowa in 1969. After living in Ames for 35 years, Dorothy moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 2004 and Chaska, Minnesota in 2020.
Dorothy’s passions were her family, her faith, flower gardening, reading, ballroom dancing, decorating her homes, and watching Iowa State basketball games. She enjoyed working at Iowa State University and the Ames Parks and Recreation Department office. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary, PEO in Ames, Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge, Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, and Vineyard Church in Kansas City.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; her parents, Kahl and Georgia; her sister, Vivian; and her brother, Larry.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Berhow; her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Steve Schmidt; her sisters, Nancy Schwab and Linda Sinclair; her grandsons, Christopher (Lindsay) Schmidt and Michael (Leah) Schmidt; nieces and nephews.
A gathering to celebrate her life will be scheduled at a later date and she will be buried beside her husband in the Cambridge Municipal Cemetery.
Dorothy’s family would like to thank the staff and her friends at Chaska Heights Senior Living for their caring support and friendship while she resided there the last several years.
