Jim Morris

Obituary of Jim Morris

James Gregory Morris, 74, died December 21st at Solvay Hospice House. He was surrounded by his loving family including his wife and sons. He fought a brave five year battle with metastatic prostate cancer.

Jim was born on October 30, 1949 in Duluth and was a life-long resident. He graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1967 and attended Vo Tech as he pursued his electrical career. He worked over 40 years for various contractors and was a proud member of Electrical Workers Union 242.

In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors, baseball, fishing and time with family and friends. Jim could build or fix anything thrown his way. The last ten years he spent countless hours volunteering in many capacities at the GND Recreation Area. This project was important to him as a way to give back to the community.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Bill Morris. Jim is lovingly survived by his wife Fran of 46 years , beloved sons Scott (Stephanie), Steven (Amy) and David. Jim is also survived by his brother Tom Morris (Gretchen) of South St. Paul. He was blessed beyond belief with seven beautiful grandchildren he adored: Evan, Emma, Clayton, Brynne, Owen, Maryn and Emerson. Jim is greatly missed by his dear furry friend Penny.

Jim always said he wanted a “party” when he passed. We are following his wishes with a Celebration of Life at the Buffalo Junction; 2590 Guss Rd, Duluth. It will occur on Saturday, January 20th from 3 – 6 pm. He was lovingly known to many people as Moose. Please feel free to wear your favorite plaid shirt in honor of Jim’s laid back style.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jim’s honor may be made to the GND REC.
