Obituary of Kay Ellen Freet-Ruport
Kay Ellen (Grams) Freet-Ruport was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on November 23rd, 2023, at the age of 77.
She was born in Marshalltown, Iowa and graduated from Garwin Community High School in 1964. Kay married the love of her life, Gerald (Pops) Ruport, on May 30th, 1964, and together they had two children: Jeremy and Christina. For 25 years, Kay worked for the Douglas County Highway Department from which she happily retired in 2010.
Kay valued family and loved nothing more than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether it was attending school concerts or sitting at the hockey rink, we knew Grams would be there, smiling and cheering in the crowd. You could always count on her to make delicious treats, even if she purposely burned the first batch of cookies for herself. Grams had a great passion for reading and assembling puzzles. Cuddling with her cats while watching Hallmark movies was often how she relaxed, and she especially enjoyed the holiday season when she could put her collection of Santa’s on display. She enjoyed working in her garden and feeding the wildlife at her and Jerry’s home. Together, Grams and Pops traveled the world making unforgettable memories. They experienced an assortment of cruises and would hit the road, map in hand, with no destination in mind.
Kay was proceeded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her husband Gerald, brother Jack (Cheryl), sister Linda (Gary), children Jeremy and Christina (Mike), Grandchildren Tabitha, Jo, and Derek, and five great-grandchildren.
Grams was one of the most kind, generous people and touched the lives of many who will deeply miss and never forget her. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 3rd 2024 from 1:00-4:00pm at The Superior Town Hall, 4917 South State Road 35.
