Obituary of Larry Douglas Coon

Larry Douglas Coon, 67, of Webster MN passed away peacefully at home December 3rd.  

Larry was born September 11, 1956 to Patricia and Louis Coon in Creston, IA. 

After Larry graduated from Mankato West High School in 1974, he went on to study Horticulture and Landscape design at Brainerd Vocational Technical Institute.  

While at school he met Janyce (Jan) Swanson. They were married at Spring Garden Lutheran Church, Cannon Falls MN, May 3rd 1980.  

After graduation he went to work at Minnesota Valley Nursery, Shakopee MN. In 1981, Larry and Jan started Spring Garden Nursery and Landscape Design in Cannon Falls which they owned and operated until 1996.  Larry went on to work at E-Z Implement and they moved to Jordan, MN.  He took a 3-year position at Bobcat Corporation.  In 2003 Larry joined Lano Equipment Sales Team in Shakopee.  In February 2023 he retired from Lano Equipment Shakopee after 20 years of service. 

Larry was an avid hunter and enjoyed trips to Colorado elk hunting for over 25 years.  He loved to visit and tell stories about his life and adventures.  He was a member of HillSpring Church and active in the men’s group and Conceal and Carry Training Classes.   

Larry is survived by his wife Jan of 43 years and favorite dog KaDee.  Brothers Mike (Barb) of Lakeville and Dennis (Lisa) of Sheridan, IL.  In-laws Gerald (Mary) Swanson of Rochester, Darlene (John) Kelley of Rochester, Mary Lynn Swanson of Columbia Falls, MT and Lois (Marty) Shades of Burnsville, and many nieces and nephews and their children. 

Celebration of Life will be held at HillSpring Church, New Prague on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.  Interment will be at Spring Garden Church at a later date.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to HillSpring Church Amphitheater Project.
