Obituary of John Bendel
John (Jack) Bendel
Bendel, John ‘Jack’ Age 81 of Minneapolis, passed away November 3, 2023 at Mercy Hospital surrounded by family. Preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Jacqualine ‘Jacky’ (Abraham Hall) Bendel. Preceded also by his parents Larry and Marie Bendel, brother, Larry, sister Rosie Ward and her husband Bob, and brother-in-law Denny Gilbert. Jack was born in a time of war and much adversity. The family was poor in possessions but rich in love for each other and for their community. He is survived by his children, daughter Marie Bendel Pennington (Matt), stepson, Keith Hall, six grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is survived by brothers Rich (Kay), Jim (Bev), Bill (Patty), sisters Mary Ann Gilbert, P. Kate (Patty) Bendel, sister-in-law’s Joanne Bendel and Tammee Abraham, and many nieces and nephews, too many to count and name, but oh, so loved. If you lived Northeast Minneapolis, you probably knew Jack, if you were lucky enough to meet him; you became his friend for life. His being know to all was partially due to his many years bartending at the Knight Cap bar and lounge, Tony Jaros River Garden and most recently, cooking at the Yacht Club. He also drove the seniors around for Eastside Neighborhood House and for the past 5 years volunteered at St. Boniface where ever he was needed. He even sang in their choir claiming, “I wasn’t very good”. At Jack’s request, interment is private. Memorials to the family are preferred in care of Kate Bendel, 2923 California St. NE, Mpls, MN 55418.
