Obituary of Brad Harmon Bainey
Brad Harmon Bainey
April 12, 1952 – October 26, 2023
Brad Harmon Bainey, age 71, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving family after a brave battle against a brain tumor that lasted nearly three years.
Brad spoke fondly of his childhood memories, particularly his trips to Pennsylvania, Florida, and his aunt Betty’s cabin. Brad faced the challenges of adulthood after the loss of his father at the age of 17. He embarked on his professional career in the construction industry and started his own family. Brad’s passions in life included hunting, fishing, boating, and his unwavering faith in the Lord and his walk with Jesus Christ.
In 1994, Brad founded The Bainey Group, Inc., a successful midsized commercial construction company operating in the metro area and thrives today under its next generation of leadership with an average tenure of nearly 20 years. This rich history of loyalty is a testament to the type of company Brad was successful in completing. His mission was to create a workplace that fostered a balance between work and quality of life. While his legacy lives on through The Bainey Group, Brad found fulfillment in giving back in unique and impactful ways. He volunteered his time and skills, including building roofs for the Hammer Residence organization and participating in mission trips to Kosovo and Cedar Rapids, IA.
Throughout his life, Brad earned numerous accolades, including multiple top gun awards, success in attaining a double black stripe in taekwondo, and receiving recognition as the Twin Cities Fastest Growing contractor and “Best in real estate”. Brad was certified in NRA instruction, Storm Chasing, and Ham Radio operation.
In his later years, Brad found love and companionship with his wife Shelby, a woman who shared his deep faith in God. Together, they enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Kansas, and Japan, but their happiest moments were spent at their lake home surrounded by loved ones and good friends.
Brad will be remembered for his ability to set the mood in any room, his infectious belly-roll laughter, his talent for storytelling and jokes, his warm hugs, and his wise counsel. He had a passion for fishing, hunting, boating, playing cards, golfing, woodworking, and entertaining his grandchildren. He was a true patriot and a man of unwavering faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife Shelby, his mother and father Chuck and Thelma, brother Barry, and grandson Jacob.
Brad is survived by his brother Brent (Sandy), daughters Gina and Mona (Ryan), son Chuck (Meredith). Brad was also a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren, Domanick (Brielle), Devon (Brittany), Craig (Caitlyn), Victoria (Wyett), Rylea, Elsa, and Evan. He also took great joy in his great-grandchildren, Ava, Anthony, Declan, Addison, Eleanor, and Emerson.
The family invites you to join us at a memorial drop-in to celebrate Brad’s life which will take place at Rockwoods in Otsego, MN, December 6th, 2023 from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. A buffet will be available for attendees to enjoy during the event. The family looks forward to having you with them as they honor Brad’s memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Shelby Bainey Camp Fund at Lake Union Church https://www.lakeunionchurch.org/page/giving in Brad’s memory.
Brad Harmon Bainey will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
