Sharon Elizabeth (Schmidt) Wasser, born November 1, 1942 at home on the family farm to Melvin & Lydia (Burau) Schmidt. Baptized at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, MN November 22, 1942. Confirmed at St. Mark Lutheran Church on March 25, 1956. Graduated from Central High School, Norwood Young America, MN on June 2, 1960.
After graduation she worked at the Telephone Company in Minneapolis, MN until 1962 when she moved back to the farm and married Lowell Wasser on June 9, 1962, at St Mark’s Lutheran Church, New Germany, MN. They bought 10 acres of land from Lowell’s parents and lived on the farm by Goose Lake for 30 years. They were blessed with two sons, Todd and Scott. When they became empty nesters, they bought the house in Mayer from Lowell’s brother and have lived there till the present.
Sharon worked at the Waconia Hospital for 10 years, then she moved on and worked at Waconia Manufacturing for 29 years. After retirement, she volunteered at the church for funerals, greeting and ushering, and helped with counting the weekly offerings. She enjoyed golfing in her early years, gardening, playing cards, fishing and going up North for an annual summer vacation with family for fishing and antique looking, although she never bought anything.
Lowell and Sharon took Todd and his family on a vacation to Mount Rushmore, South Dakota, Montana, Colorado, and the Rocky Mountains in 2001. This was one of her most memorable trips!
They also took three trips to Germany to visit with her brother, Lowell and his wife, Anita. They spent their time sightseeing, admiring the stunning churches and cathedrals, and visited Austria, where they saw beautiful botanical gardens.
They also traveled to Florida, Missouri, Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, Oahu, and Maui, Hawaii where they finished an exhausting hike to the top of Diamond Head volcano, and Arkansas to visit with Sharon’s aunts, Murva, 98 years old and Marion (†) who lived to be 96 years old.
