Obituary of Walter Notermann
Notermann, Walter “Wally”, 88, of Excelsior, passed away peacefully October 3, 2023. Wally grew up in a large family in Victoria where he was lovingly mentored by his father in the craft of woodworking, the art of entrepreneurship, and the value of a strong work ethic. He co-owned Lake Region Products, a water-ski manufacturing company, and held several design patents. He was also an excellent waterskier and avid fisherman who spent much of his recreation time boating on Lake Minnetonka, which he knew like the back of his hand.
Gifted with mechanical abilities, Wally was able to fix almost anything and if he couldn’t fix it, he’d make it. He was curious and loved to learn, and his family often turned to him with questions about history, nature, and many other topics. He also enjoyed watching sports, and despite his love-hate relationship with the MN Vikings, he continued to faithfully watch their games decade after decade. At home was where his heart was, and Wally’s greatest joy was spending time at home with his family, dear friends, and special pets. He was a humble man who never wanted much for himself, always choosing instead to give generously to his loved ones. He will be greatly missed and will forever remain in our hearts and stories.
Preceded in death by parents Raymond and Lorraine Notermann; brothers Dallas and Ray; sisters Dorleen and Muriel.
Survived by beloved wife of 64 years, Laurie; daughters Cindy (Brian) and Cari (Mark); sisters Marcia, Joyce, Marguerite and Linnea; sister-in-law Lisa, and many other relatives and good friends. Special thanks to Wally’s dear friend “Burky” who made him laugh like no one else, and forever gratitude to the entire team at The Wealshire of Medina who lovingly cared for Wally like family and brought him so much joy. You all have been our angels on Earth.
Private interment with immediate family, per Wally’s request. Celebration of Life to follow in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Feline Rescue and The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
