Obituary of Martha F. Martenson
Martha F. Martenson (Marge), 93, passed away on September 30, 2023, in Duluth.
She was born to Rose and Albert Hoeschen in Freeport, MN, on January 5, 1930, and grew up in Sauk Center, MN with her 11 brothers and sisters.
She married Clinton Martenson on January 6, 1951, and she created loving homes for them and their two daughters in Long Prairie, Bovey, Aurora, Eveleth, and Duluth. In retirement, Marge and Clint enjoyed their time together traveling, square dancing, and catching up with old friends.
Marge was a gracious host with a well-stocked pantry, and family and friends enjoyed her warm welcome and hospitality at countless meals and events. A fabulous baker, there were always treats to take home after a visit. Marge was also an excellent seamstress and accomplished knitter until her loss of vision.
Above all, Marge was devoted to her family, and she cherished time with her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchild. All were blessed by her interest and encouragement in their various pursuits.
Marge’s life was centered by her faith. She was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church for over 50 years, serving in many areas of their ministry as well as volunteering at the Damiano Center, Food Shelf, and delivering Meals on Wheels.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Clint; her parents; brothers Ralph, Melvin, Allie, Ed, Ervin, Richard, and Raymond; sisters Sue Brakken and Arlene Francis.
Marge is survived by her daughters Sandy (Lynn) Mass and Patti Martenson; grandchildren Tricia (Mike) Keily, Christopher Carey, Nicholas (Danet) Carey, and Peter Martenson, nine great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. She is also survived by her brother Al (Carlene) Hoeschen and sister Evelyn (Dan) Majkrzak, sister-in-laws Mary Ann Hoeschen, LoAnn Hoeschen, and Janet Hoeschen and numerous nieces and nephews and their extended families. Her caring spirit will also be missed by many neighbors and friends.
Service: 11 a.m. on Monday, October 9, at Concordia Lutheran Church, 2501 Woodland Avenue, Duluth, MN with visitation one hour prior to service.
