Obituary of Eugene Everett Hare
Eugene “Eug” “Gene” Everett Hare, 76, of Hermantown, MN passed away of natural causes on September 21, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN, surrounded by family.
Gene was born on February 28,1947 at St. Mary’s Hospital to Elroy and Irene (Vanisterdael) Hare. He spent his early childhood working with his grandfather on the farm in Burnett, MN. As a teenager, he rode his Cushman scooter, raced his Sno-Jet snowmobile and worked on motors with his brother and friends. He attended Alborn School for three years and then moved to Hermantown, where he graduated from Hermantown High School in 1965. His first job was at Scarlett’s Feed Store in Duluth. He attended Salter Trade School for auto body repair and painting and then worked for Goldfine’s Auto Body Shop. He enlisted in the Naval Reserve where he was stationed on the Great Lakes and received a medical discharge. He met his wife, Linda (Archambault) in 1967 and they married in September of 1968. Gene retired in 2009 after working for Northwestern Bell/US West/Qwest for 43 years. He was co-owner of G&L Enterprises, which offered snow plowing and dirt work. He was hard working, devoted and was always willing to help a friend. He loved restoring cars and working in his garage. His latest project was his beloved 1954 Chevrolet pick up. He also enjoyed traveling to Sturgis, Nascar races, swap meets, and watching tractor pulling, stock car racing and his grandson’s sporting events.
Gene is preceded in death by his daughter, Nicole, his brother, Kenneth and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, his sisters Betty (Duane) McDonald and Cheryl (Emin) Yumusaklar, three children, Jeff (Linda), Jennafer (Bobby) Porter, Natalie, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and an honorary grandson.
The family would like to thank St. Luke’s Hospice for their wonderful care during his final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Do North Pizza in Hermantown from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, where he and “the guys” met every Thursday.
