Obituary of Patricia C Midthun
It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Patricia C (Patty) Midthun at the age of 88 on September 14,2023, due to complications from a stroke.
She was predeceased in death by her husband, Thomas Midthun (57) and her son Michael Midthun (47) Survived by Gerald (Jay) Sandin (significant other) sons, Paul (Kim) Midthun, Bill (Debby) Midthun, daughters, Sue (Maynard) Johnson and Pam (Randy) Mata. Grandchildren, Ryan & Nowell Midthun, Dan, Denise & Melanie Midthun, Jonathan, Melissa & Chris Midthun, Kristina & Rachel Johnson and Nikki, Tony & Brandon Mata. She had 23 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Patty was born on July 18, 1935 to George and Helen Fisher in Gloucester New Jersey. She grew up there and that is where she met our father (Tom) while he was stationed there with the USCG. Patty & Tom married on July 24, 1954.
She was 18 when she left New Jersey and moved to Mpls,MN. They resided in NE Mpls in a beautiful mansion that had been converted into apartments. Tom's parents owned and also resided there along with Tom's 2 brothers and their wives and children. After having 5 children, they moved to our beloved home in North Mpls. She was there for 30 years. She moved to Spring Lake Park for a few years. Prior to this she met Jay, they moved to Winona for about 13 years. They moved back to Spring Lake Park in 2015. In June of 2023 Patty's health was declining and she moved to an assisted living in Columbia Heights.
Patty enjoyed gardening, dancing and traveling. Some of the places she got to visit were Germany, Paris, Mexico and of course to her home town of New Jersey to spend time with her siblings, George, Robert and Helen.
Another enjoyment she got to experience was boating with Jay and spending time with their friends at the marina. Her latest thing she shared with Jay was their Saturday night pizza and old war shows. They also watched a lot of sports, mainly football and baseball.
Patty's greatest joy was her family; we all benefit from the love she showed us. She was kind, loving, gentle and a quite personality but would not hesitate to defend her family. We remember when we were kids and some of our neighbors
found that out first hand. She had a great sense of humor which showed until the end.
Patty went by a few nick names given to her by some of her grandkid’s, Gigi, Gramcracker and Grandma toast. She loved her toast.
She loved to dress up and always wore jewelry. And she never got rid if any of her jewelry. And heaven for bid if it was a windy day and messed up her do!
Wilting Flowers
When all of this is over, and the flowers have started to fade, When the condolence cards are in the trash and we have gone back to our regular days, There will still be moments of sorrow, when the grief and the memories feel fresh, Where we think of Mom as she would want us to do, in the days when she was her best. When we were young, and the world full of sunshine, When she was young, and her heart full of pride, We will compost the flowers and throw out the cards, but she will always live on, inside.
