Obituary of Tim Lloyd
Timothy Allen Lloyd passed away peacefully at home, with his wife by his side on September 16, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Georgia (Tamblyn), his older brother Daniel, and his favorite Aunt Lois. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Terri (Benson), son Thomas (Rachel), his two fabulous “grandgirls” Beatrice and Penelope, and brothers Mike Lloyd and Mark Lloyd.
Tim was born in Mankato on January 7, 1950, and lived in New Ulm from 1950 to 1963. They moved to Mankato to be closer to family after the passing of his father in 1960. He graduated from high school in Mankato in 1968, and then went to Mankato State University where he graduated with majors in history and political science.
From a young age Tim was an active participant in anything sports related. As time went on his physical participation waned, but not his enthusiasm. With age came wisdom in watching and analyzing professional sports from the sanctity of his favorite recliner. Tim also loved the outdoors and for many of Tom’s formative years they spent at least a week every summer in the Boundary Waters. The stories were abundant of their encounters and the trials in the woods, always told with slight smiles on their faces.
Tim had an entrepreneurial spirit: leadership and initiative came naturally to him. At a very young age, he had an early morning paper route seven days a week regardless of inclement weather. One of his favorite youthful achievements was selling the most Minnesota Centennial commemorative plates. This early work ethic translated into his adulthood when fresh out of college he worked for Proctor & Gamble. But Tim also wanted something of his own to grow and develop. In 1977 he started his own business which became Bull Brokerage, Inc. While in the early years of his business he had his share of struggles, he persevered and was proud to lead a very successful business. Across the community, Tim was respected and known for his integrity and work ethic. In recent years, Tim served as an integral advisor to the building of the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in New Ulm where his brother is honored. Tim was always one to challenge boundaries and take risks, but he also exhibited great tenacity, overcoming many obstacles, and that served him well in business and life.
Family will privately reminisce and honor the man we all loved. He will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tim’s honor to Friends of the Boundary Waters.
