Obituary of Virginia Little Aldridge
Virginia Little Aldridge, (Mary Virginia Little),101, passed away on September 13, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth Mn. She was born on November 24, 1921 in Alton, Illinois to Mary Katherine (Vohs) Little and William Franklin Little. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Tyner, and brothers Lester, David, Harold, Robert, Melvin, Wilbur, and Richard.
Virginia grew up in Alton, Illinois and worked “a man’s job” testing asphalt during WW II for Shell Oil where she met her husband Tyner. They married and made a home in Alton, and then St. Louis, Mo. where they raised their family. Later they moved for a time to Maryland for Tyner’s work in insurance, and then back to the St. Louis area. Virginia enjoyed being a housewife and a mother. She kept a beautiful home and made some wonderful meals and desserts. She and Tyner were life-long Democrats and they worked on getting out the vote multiple times. A short while after Tyner’s passing in 1990,
Virginia moved to Duluth Mn to be near family. Virginia enjoyed reading and for many years regularly received a bag of books from the Mount Royal Library. She also kept up on the news and weather and followed golf, baseball, and football on television.
She is survived by her three children and their families; Mary (Bob) Schallenberg and their son Sean (Rebecca) Mullen; Tom (Nancy) Aldridge and their children Lisa Anderson, David (Jeanna) Aldridge; Sarah (Chris) Bosch; and Karen Hartung (Joe Nelson); and Dan (Becky) Aldridge and their children Katherine (Matt) Mazur, Jake (Sarah Bordash), and Steve (Craig Ewer). She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren: Ian, Collin, Amelia, Archie, Olivia, Violet, Hazel, Tyner, Eleanor, Griffin, Jaxon, Riley, Killian, Sabrina and Nova.
Virginia enjoyed phone calls from family and seeing pictures of the children and grandchildren, many of whom were far away. She said she would like a tree planted in her memory because trees provide shade for people and a home for the birds.
The family would like to thank the staff at Viewcrest Health Center and St. Luke’s for their excellent care.
Virginia’s final resting place will be with her husband, Tyner, at Valhalla Cemetery, Godfrey Illinois.
