Obituary of Philip John Olson

Philip John Olson, 85, of Cottage Grove MN passed away on Sept 6, 2023 at Regions Hospital. Phil was born September 24, 1937 to Mary and Melvin Olson of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and graduated with degrees in Math and Physics from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. He joined 3M and worked there for 35 years as an engineer. He married the love of his life, Joanne, in 1966. Being an avid hobby aviator, he flew a single engine plane to the Bahamas for their honeymoon.

Phil was also a licensed flight instructor and taught many students to fly, including his daughter Chris and grandson Nick. Phil was passionate for life and loved adventure, travel and visiting with friends old and new. Favorite trips were to Italy, Japan, France and England.

Phil is preceded in death by his parents, Mary A. (Kribs) Olson and Melvin H. Olson. He is survived by his wife Joanne (Johnson) Olson, his children Christine (Brian) Olson and Jennifer (Jim) Fellows, his sister Marilyn Bieger, and grandchildren Nick Grados and Grace Grados.
