Obituary of Mark Steven Stockland

Mark Steven Stockland, 69, of St. Paul, Minnesota died unexpectedly on Thursday August 24th at New Perspective Senior Living in St Paul Minnesota. The son of Sigvald and Vivian Stockland, he was born in Willmar on July 30, 1954. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian, MN. Mark graduated in 1972 from Cosmos High school and received his BA at St Cloud State University in 1977.

Mark worked on the family farm and at Green Giant in high school and college. After college he worked at Unisys for 32 years, working mostly with cargo automation. His work with Unisys involved international travel and he lived in numerous cities including Frankfurt, Brussels, Sydney and Hong Kong. Mark worked hard and was dedicated at whatever job he attempted.

After retirement Mark worked for the Fitzgerald Theatre and the Hennepin Theatre Trust as an usher. He also worked for Minnesota Public Radio selling merchandise. Mark volunteered at the Union Gospel Mission and the Urban CROSS ministry of Mounds Park United Methodist Church.

Mark enjoyed fishing, bowling, horseshoe, basketball, softball, and loved playing games and cards. He was a loyal Minnesota Twins, Vikings and Gopher fan! Mark especially loved family gatherings. He loved music and went to as many concerts and festivals as he could.

Mark was an active member at Lake Lillian Grace Lutheran Church and later at Mounds Park United Methodist Church in St Paul. Most recently he was attending Macalester Plymouth United Church in St Paul.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his siblings, Louise Letnes (Mike Thompson), from St. Paul, Ann (Larry) Jones from Litchfield, and Brian Stockland from Faribault. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces, Dan (Bridget) Letnes from New Brighton, Amy (Randy) Kleinhuizen from Farmington, Brett Thompson (Megan Gorder) from Proctor, Jessie (Zane) Jobe from Golden CO, and Amy Thompson (Micah Smith) from Austin TX. His great nieces and nephews include Lauren, Mason, Brooke, Natalie, Ella, Ben, Pruet, Maeve, Esher and Lily. He is also survived by many relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 4th, 2024 at United Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian, Minnesota. A short program and an opportunity to share memories will be at 2:00, followed by lunch. Everyone is welcome. Private interment will be at Tromso Cemetery in Lake Lillian.
