Obituary of Lois Jeanne Neubauer
Early on the morning of August 24, 2023, Lois Jeanne (Arndt) Neubauer passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones at the Harmony River Retirement Community in Hutchinson, MN.
Lois was born to Frank and Clara (Andersen) Arndt in St. Paul, MN on October 4, 1925. Lois grew up in Forest Lake, with her sister Shirley and following graduation, she attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter where she earned a teaching degree and taught English at high schools in LeSueur and Rush City.
On November 24, 1951, she married Calvin Julius Neubauer of Rush City, Minnesota and they moved to St. Paul and raised their family in Maplewood where Calvin worked as an electrician for 3M Company while Lois assumed the role of homemaker, wife and mother to a busy household of four, Debbie (Ed) Finley, Brad (Sue), Bruce (Carolyn) and Brian (Tami). Lois enjoyed the opportunity to re-enter the workforce as an employee of Farmers’ Insurance Group. She and Cal were long-time members of Beaver Lake Lutheran Church in Maplewood, where Lois was active including serving on the church council; was a member of the choir; and directed the Junior Choir while participating in many activities and groups. She also performed acts of volunteerism at St. John’s Hospital and Lyngblomsten Care Center.
Cal was stricken with MS and Lois retired to care for him. When he entered Lyngblomsten, she dutifully visited him, often daily, for the next 17 years until his death in 2008. In the early 2000s she moved to a Senior Community in Eagan where she resided for over 20 years, in order to be closer to her daughter Debbie. She made many meaningful friendships with her fellow residents at Oakwoods prior to spending her final 8 months near her son Brian’s family in Hutchinson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Shirley and brother-in-law (Stan Hagstrom); her sister-in-law and husband (Caryl and Bob Leibel); nieces Paula Gard (Leibel) and Pastor Heidi Hagstrom.
Survived by four children and their spouses, twelve Grandchildren, eight Great-grandchildren (with another due this December!), 12 nieces and nephews and dear friend, Sandy McCarney.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Easter Lutheran Church, 4200 Pilot Knob Road in Eagan, MN. (Corner of Pilot Knob and Diffley Roads.)
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Lunch will follow the service. Lois requested no flowers be sent and all memorials received will be distributed to her favorite causes and organizations.
