Richard Lorenz Archer
On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, Richard (Dick) Lorenz Archer, passed away suddenly at age eighty-five, due to COVID. Dick is survived by his loving wife, Pamela, and children, Michelle Schumacher, Lori Schiltz, and Ted Archer; grandchildren, April Orr, Sean Schiltz, Annie Sauer, Madison Schumacher; great grandchildren, Jaxson, Amelia and Holden; and brother, Robert (Bob) Archer. Preceded by parents, Lorenz and Bertha Archer.
Dick was born March 8, 1938 in Alexandria, MN. When in 9th grade, the family moved to NE Minneapolis, where he attended Edison High School. An accomplished counselor, Dick earned a Bachelor’s Degree in education and a Master’s Degree in Counseling, both from the University of Minnesota. He worked at Edgewood Junior High School for 11 years, and the balance of his career at Mounds View Senior High School. He met the love of his life, Pam, an English teacher at Edgewood, in 1973 and in 1974, they were married. They were together for 49 joyful and loving years.
Dick will be affectionately remembered for his kindness, his quirky humor and passion for sports, dogs, travel and comedy. He had a curious mind and loved learning about the world and how things work. He was an avid book reader, especially non-fiction and biographies. Dick was a master landscaper, and took great pride in his many projects around the house and yard. Dick loved all animals, and dogs were always an important part of the family. Bella, his beloved Golden, and Tuffy, the Cavalier, were treasured companions.
Dick’s selfless and caring approach to relationships created strong friendships that stood the test of time. He was loyal, dedicated, thoughtful, a great listener, and always full of fun and humor. Family was the true center of his life; his greatest joy was spending time with Pam, Michelle, Lori, Ted, and all the grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Waverly Gardens. Reception with luncheon to follow. In lieu of giving flowers, the family asks that those who are able instead make a donation to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF), Society for the Blind, or the Animal Humane Society.
A very special thanks to the caring staff at Waverly Gardens Hearth for their compassion and dedication. Their support enabled Dick’s ability to live life as he wanted and maintain a high quality of life.
