Obituary of William J. Bracken
William J. Bracken, 72, life-long Twin Citian, eager traveler, theatrical creator, gourmet enthusiast and lover of any artistic performance, passed away at home, Monday, August 14, 2023. Bill’s husband and partner of 32 years, Tom Doolittle and their fiery redheaded Pomeranian Mildred were by his side.
Born in St. Paul on July 21, 1951, Bill grew up in a strong and loving family, led by his mother, Donna Mae and dad, Bill (William) Bracken. Both preceded him in death. Bill is survived by sisters Shawn (Rob) McMenemy, Holly (Craig) Haw, Cecily Disana and Leslie (Jim) Lindahl. Bill’s Uncle Jon Hampton was especially close to Bill in age and interests and was truly more of a brother. Bill was very fond of his 7 nieces and nephews, and enjoyed their many family gatherings and celebrations.
Bill had many close and special friends from school, life, Room & Board, and the patients and staff of the Courage Kenney Rehabilitation Institute, where he diligently worked through his battles with neurofibromatosis type 2. All these great friends were on this journey with Bill & Tom and gave them the strength and resolve they needed to see them through.
Tom and Bill’s family feels indebted to Drs. Davis, Nance, Larkins, Trusheim and McClue and their many staff members. We thank Bill’s hospice caregivers, Sarah, Brandee, Jeannie and Chandler. Their careful, gentle attention through the past number of months has meant the world.
A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, September 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at the Minnesota Cremation Society, 7110 France Ave S, Edina, MN 55435.
The service will be followed by a gathering of friends and family in the backyard garden of Bill & Tom’s home.
