Virginia Seblen was born November 26, 1933, in Grafton, ND to Edward and Ethel (Best) Seblen, of Bathgate, ND. She graduated from Bathgate Public School in 1951, then attended Jamestown College in Jamestown, ND for one year and Moorhead State Teacher’s College for one year to earn a degree in teaching. She then taught fourth grade for two years in Cavalier where she met her future husband who was also a teacher in Cavalier.
Virginia married Ray Baker on June 5, 1957, in Bathgate. They moved to Braham, MN where Ray taught music and English for two years. After moving around Minnesota for Ray’s teaching positions, they settled in Duluth and Carlton Minnesota, where they raised their family. Virginia was a stay-at-home mother for many years before returning to part-time work and earning her four-year degree at UMD. She then was a substitute teacher throughout the Carlton County area. Virginia was an avid volunteer for many years. She loved reading, crossword puzzles, and crafting. She was an excellent seamstress.
She was a member of the Bathgate Presbyterian Church and later at other churches in Minnesota while Ray was the organist at many of them. Virginia also loved to visit with family and friends, play games, cook and travel with her family. She was grateful for her family and friends.
Virginia is survived by her son, Ron Baker of Cavalier, ND; daughters, Ruth Baker of Plymouth, MN; and Melody Baker of Forest Lake, MN and two grandsons Dain and Basil.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ray in 1991; her parents and sister Edna Brown in 2010.
