Obituary of Mavis Harriette Roelofs

Mavis Harriette Roelofs (Swenson), of Brooklyn Park, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2023, at the age of 92.  Born on May 9, 1931, in Raymond, MN.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Esther Larson; sister-in-law, Charlotte Teichert; brothers-in-law, Clarence Teichert, Harold Kruger, Darrell Janssen and Curt Hagfors; grandchild, Tom O'Connor; and great-grandchild, Elliott Roelofs, along with many beloved aunts and uncles. 

Survived by husband of 73 years, Kenneth; children, Jerry (Linda) Roelofs of Minnetonka, Mike (Katy) Roelofs of White Bear Lake, Carol (Mark) Youngdale of Maple Grove, and Holly Dodds of Coon Rapids; along with 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Hagfors; brother, Jerry (Sonya) Larson; sisters-in-law, Verna Janssen and Lorna Kruger; brother-in-law, Sherwin (Marilyn) Roelofs; and many dear cousins. 

She grew up in Raymond and was valedictorian of her senior class. She married her high school sweetheart and they moved to Minneapolis in the early 50's. They enjoyed many years living in their home on Lake Minnetonka, traveling with family and friends, and golfing.  She also loved playing cards, especially bridge - her friends called her the "Bridge Queen".  She enjoyed family, hosting many family get-togethers with singing around the piano. She loved music and attended every choir concert and every high school musical her kids were in, and even until the last few days of her life, she was singing hymns and other songs.

She has always had a deep faith in God, was a member of the Lord of Life Owls, and loved her “Mornings with Jesus” devotions. She also had, and has, a deep love for her husband, and he for her to this very day. She lived an amazing life and will be deeply missed. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 26th at 1:00pm, with a visitation at noon, and a small luncheon will follow. The celebration will be held at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 7401 County Road 101, Maple Grove, MN 55311 (Due to road construction, please approach the church from Bass Lake Road).
