I knew Travis for over 50 years, having first met him in 1967 when he came to speak at the Biomedical Branch of Holloman AFB, where I was a civilian graduate student summer research assistant. A few years later we became colleagues at the U of M. Travis was an absolutely amazing person. He was a creative genius with respect to both his diverse and ground-breaking academic work in behavior science as well as his avocational artistic pursuits. He was a deep thinker, a philosopher, a humanist, and an extremely hardworking man, to put it mildly. I simply stood in awe of the enormous volume of work he did. It is cliche, but Travis really is, for me, a most unforgettable character. I feel extremely fortunate to have known him. My sincere condolences go out to his family.
