Obituary of David Arthur Kassahn
David Arthur Kassahn, age 76, of Bloomington MN passed away on August 1, 2023 from pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by family.
David was born in Wheaton MN on December 26, 1946 to Florence (Neumann, ) and Arthur Kassahn. His parents were farmers and lived about 10 miles north of Wheaton. David grew up on the farm until 1957 when the family moved to Aurora MN, located on the Iron Range. David graduated from Aurora Hoyt Lakes high school in 1965. While in high school he participated in track and in 1965 he set a record in the 2 mile taking 1st place. He also participated in football. Upon graduation he attended Minnesota School of Business. In July 1968 he entered the US Army. He was sent to Fort Dix NJ for basic training being promoted to Sargeant in November 1969. He was stationed in Vietman from December 1968 to July 1970. While in Vietnam he was a communication specialist (radio operator). He was awarded the following: Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Expert M-16, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Marksmanship M-14. After leaving Vietnam he was stationed in Germany until discharged in July 1971. Thereafter he worked in various positions in the Minneapolis area and Milwaukee. He was married to Nancy from Milwaukee for a short period. On May 3, 1980 he married Kathy Sosnosky. They were married for 29 years and made the Twin Cities their home. David enjoyed golf and tennis and watching Minnesota sport's teams. During the 70's and 80's he enjoyed going North for deer hunting.
David was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathy and twin sister Gloria. He is survived by sister's Janice Zierke, Connie Sackrison and brother Donald Kassahn, 3 nieces and 2 nephews and many other extended family.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be scheduled at a later date.
