Obituary of Richard L. Dahlheimer
Richard L. Dahlheimer
August 2, 1947 - July 11, 2023
Dick decided to start his hospice journey with his children after his terminal diagnosis of stage 4 liver cancer in March of 2023. He passed away while listening to Queen and CCR, with his son holding his hand, and both daughters by his side. He fought courageously up until the very last day and showed us the meaning of love, strength, and true bravery. His children Josie, Rose, and Max are his pride and joy, their accomplishments and many gifts made him proud. Dick enjoyed many activities with his children and he always made it better with his playful attitude. He was always singing a song to someone with a smile on his face. Grandchildren Austin and Gigi, both brought him immense joy and he always knew how to make them smile and laugh. Dicks love for being on lakes & rivers with his boat was known to all. The water was his refuge, especially the Mississippi River & Knife Lake. Some of his favorite soundtracks on the water were Dirty Dancing, Stray Cats, Tina Turner, Elton John, Blues Brothers, Neil Diamond, CCR, & Queen to name a few. All of his children inherited his love of music and being on the water as so many happy memories were made there. Family and friends could always count on him to help when needed. Work, jobs, & shelter were offered to people in their time of need. His Queen Ave homes housed many friends and family throughout the years. He welcomed people with open arms and a sense of humor. His love for music, dancing, & fun coupled with his playful humor, left many great memories for all of his family & friends. He proudly owned his own business for over forty years, he was the best in his field, which showed in the length of loyal service to his clients. He was truly dedicated and many of his clients were very sad to hear of his diagnosis. Even his neighbors were saddened to lose such a great neighbor and friend. After his diagnosis neighbors brought him a prayer shawl, food, cards, and flowers. He was touched at the outpouring of support from family, friends, neighbors, & even his clients. No more, “Gotta go to work, cause it's work, work”. You are “footloose” and “sailing away”. FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS. Richard was a Vietnam Veteran who served from 1967-1972. War is not an easy thing to endure but he faced it bravely just like his death. He had fond memories of the friendships and experiences from Vietnam. He often talked about his R&R time in Vietnam and Australia. He loved the ladies from around the globe and still remembered their names. He was a proud and patriotic American and raised his children as such. Survived by children Josie (mother Deborah), Rosalee and Max (mother Barbara), grandchildren Austin and Gisela (Gigi), siblings Beverly Larson, Donna (Mike) Eklund, Tom (Patty), and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Clarence and Eleanor, brother Ronnie, sister Janet and brother in law Tim Gryz. Memorial/Celebration at the Crystal VFW #494, 5222 Bass Lake Rd, Crystal, MN 55429, Friday August 18, 2023 from 2-6pm. Tribute promptly at 2:30. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
