Obituary of Virgil Jay Miller Jr.
Virgil Jay Miller Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on July 19, 2023. He was a very good decent man who lived an honorable life lovingly caring for and providing for his family.
He was a good role model to children. Gentle. Kind. Generous with his patience. He was shrewd at business, yet very gracious in his personal life. Even people who were normally rough behaved respectfully around him. He just made people want to be better.
He always behaved like a gentleman; never smoking, drinking, or swearing and he never ever spanked or hit his kids. Not even once. Instead, misbehaving children received a lengthy lecture that always ended with, "Be Good". We discussed amongst ourselves that a quick smack didn't seem so terrible.
His wife and children were very proud of him as he was an example of kindness and dignity as he moved about the world, being a decent man, loving God, and working hard to ensure the security of his family.
He laughed and was silly. He took little kids to the post office and bought stamps one at a time, explaining that he didn't want to tie up all his money in stamps, when really, he was trying to make every day a fun outing for little kids.
Sonny told many, many, many stories of his beloved hometown of Wendell, MN where his dad owned the local dairy.
When he was a little boy his mother nicknamed him Sonny, because he was her sunshine. Sonny and his little brother Bud were lifelong best friends, as their mother certainly would have loved for both of them.
Sonny loved cars and had a beautiful Cadillac, which he completely, and fully deserved.
He was survived by his wife of 65 years Marlys, son Mike (Angie), daughter Lori (Darrell), granddaughter Tatum (Cody), and grandsons Jt, Nate, Ben, and Leo.
He was preceded in death by his mother Amy, his father Virgil Sr., and his son Paul (Paige).
This lovely man will be missed and he will be remembered with gratitude and love.
