Joe and Barb were the perfect neighbors. We shared a driveway and try doing that with people who weren't as nice as Joe. There was one time, however, when we were washing that driveway and preparing it for a new coat. We were half way done when Joe decided that he would spray me full on in my face with his garden hose. I paused, walked over to his shovel and broom, picked them up, walked across the street, and tossed his tools into the neighbors yard. The look on our neighbors face was one of amusement and understanding. He knew that you could only have this kind of interaction with a neighbor as nice as Joe.
Joe and Barb and Candice and I would occasionally misbehave together. One night, after some refreshments on our deck, we TP'd the neighbors tree across the street. Joe obediently went back to the Egan household to get 'the big rolls' as Barb commanded. There was never a time when Joe was not ready to play a joke on, or to help a neighbor.
Joe loved Barb totally. We all know this but Candice and I got to witness it every day for years. He and Barb were dedicated to their boys and to their grandchildren. We all know this but we got to witness it every day. Candice and I are delighted that Joe is now reunited with his precious Barb. This is our favorite memory of Joe.
